Typical battery life and possible improvements

What do you guys get for a normal battery life? Since upgrading to 1.9.16, I've seen a bit of a dip in life. I used to get around 16 hrs, and now I'm down in the 10–12 range. This is with VERY light use (no games, video, GPS etc). If I use it like normal, I would probably be in the <8 area.

Sometimes I just can't be by a charger and am running around a lot during the day. I depend on the phone to stay in touch, so I can't have it dying around 4pm. What have you guys done to squeeze more battery life out?

I've tried Juice Defender, with minimal results. I haven't messed with the kernel yet, or anything that drastic.

I'm actually about to comment on an improved battery life since I upgraded to 1.9.30. Like AMAZING results!
I must admit, I did not have any data or airtime on my phone at the time, and so I did have data disabled.

I flashed 1.9.30 last Sunday. Charged the phone, took it off charge Monday morning 6am and only charged it again the Wednesday night. And i listened to music twice for around 15 minutes each time (which is usually brutal). I took it off charge Thursday morning, and only charged it again on Saturday (yesterday). Was good, but battery got drained quickly while reading emails, so I had to charge it much earlier during the day than the previous round. Now I'm using data a lot, so myh results could be very flawed. I was thinking it may be due to the changes made for the Milestone in the 1.9.30 release.

I'm not sure, about it yet though, i had also previously wiped the phone completely and then restored 1.9.23 as I was not receiving many texts etc...so this may also have played a roll. I'm yet to update to 1.9.8, but I might skip it and just wait til Friday.

    Any thoughts?

Ok. Well, that's good to hear. I might give it a whirl tomorrow, see how it goes. I really hope it helps, cause not having a working phone is becoming a real hassle.

I am in the 8-10 hour range. If I turn off data, and only turn it on when I need it I can get closer to 12-14 hours. Haven't really noticed any difference in battery life with newer updates.

    Cpu governor

I am using no frills cpu app. The idea to slow down the phone when not in use sounds like a winner to me. It worked perfect on my old palm pre. I just applied the concept here with my Evo running miui rom.

My Battery life is dropping like crazy the more I update! I rarely had to plug in at night if the phone was fully charged. Now if I don't it dies on me. I use SetCPU and keep it low when the screen is off and keep it on 'on demand' setting. I keep the screen to the minimum brightness for the environment. In the house,it's almost always on the lower setting or close to it. But right now,MIUI is blasting through my batt and if this doesn't change soon,I'LL have to change and go to a different ROM and I hate to do that as I love MIUI! When I check the battery useage, the top dog is Phone Idle followed by Display and then Cell standby and then Android Sys. WTH is 'Phone Idle' and why is it using so much batt??

BTW, the post I made above about amazing battery life was short-lived. I'm struggling now just as much.

I found battery replacement here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/180678597080...ht_2159wt_1163
Now I am in the 28-34 hour range if I turn off data and GPS receiver, no games, Wi-Fi etc.

Where can I set the 1% battery indicator?

There are not options for 1% battery increments for the D1. The Milestone has a kernel module that can be modified to give 1% measurements, but the D1 does not. A while ago there was some talk of people working on it, but nobody is putting time to dev on a device that has reached (and really outlived) its EOL.
People say that if you play Microsoft CD's backwards, you hear satanic things, but that's nothing, because if you play them forwards, they install Windows.

If at first you don't succeed, paint it shiny white and put an Apple logo on it. You can make a fortune on upgrades.

I have a Milestone phone. Where can I get this modified Kernel? Can it be installed via Recovery?

By Milestone, I mean the GSM version of the Milestone. The CDMA version (AKA Droid) does not support it. As far as where it is at, I have no idea. You could check rootzwiki and xda, it should be there. I remember reading about it months ago, but I never kept any of the links.

My Energy is dropping like mad the more I update! I hardly ever had to be connected in at night if the mobile phone was absolutely vitalized. Now if I don't it dies on me. I use SetCPU and keep it low when the present is off and keep it on 'on demand' developing. I keep the present to the smallest efficiency for the earth. .

Smile Re: Typical battery life and possible improvements

As for maself, runnin up with MIUI-us 2.4.6, here I do what I called a "new-guyz-in-town" style against the machine, a simple method to extend more batt's energy

    1. Set the CPU freq to 250--600 MHz rather than 1 GHz by default
    2. Using GPRS+EDGE rather than HSDPA/HSUPA for internet browsing
    3. Slide down the backlight as low as possibl
    4. Disable menu transition effects
    5. Disable the background data-connections like GMail etc
    6. Eliminate the background processes when not in use
    7. Turn off GPS, AGPS & Locations tracking
    8. Use 3G only for hispeed downloading (specially in Google Play), then turn it back to 2G again
    9. Do not let any apps stayed resident in RAM unless important to.
    10. etc that makes necessary to do,,, and do not let yor fingers playin around with the menu.

This way, I could hav ma Milestone machine stays aside of me in about 2--3 DAYS, with standard battery BP6X ,,, And that's why I lov this machine
