[RESOURCE] MIUI HTC EVO 4G Owner's Toolkit WIP
Ok, after watching people ask and search and ask again for the same things over and over, I decided that we need one thread to hold all of these valuable resources. Many of these links will be found in multiple locations, forums, threads and posts and I will try to keep this single thread updated with links to as many resources as we can come up with. This is a work in progress and a living document. I will come back later to clean it up a bit.
If you have new/other bugs, please take a look at the Official Bugs Report Thread! And stay up to date with the MIUI Weekly Changelog!
Please feel free to chime in and provide other suggestions. I or one of the mods will take all of the useful posts/recommendations and add them to the OP posts. I hope this will help some of you in your endeavor to create the best personal MIUI experience possible!
I take no credit for any of these items I have only gathered and edited them for a one-stop easy shop opportunity. All fixes have been edited for clarity and efficiency with links wherever possible. Please let me know of any broken/missing links or errors. Links to the original source are provided when possible. I have not run all of these fixes personally, but have confirmed these fixes work by finding at least three user corroborations for each. If you have questions on a specific fix with a Source listed, I recommend directing questions/issues to that original source for best results. Otherwise feel free to ask here and we may be able to assist. ~js

Also see the Official MIUI.us Bugs Thread for latest bugs/fixes
WITHOUT FAIL, THE NUMBER 1 STEP IN ANY FIX IS: MAKE A NANDROID
Getting Rid of the Phantom Voice Mail Icon (The one that shows up in the top left corner, NOT the text message issue.) Source
- MAKE A NANDROID just in case, (though you may want to flash your preferred ROM from scratch)
- Obtain/find/borrow/buy a second non-Android Sprint phone (old, new, ugly, doesn't matter but must have a clean ESN)
- Take your EVO back to a stock rooted ROM such as RUU SuperSonic EvO 3.70.651.1 OTA - Stock - Sense or Version 4.12.651.1
- Log on to mysprint.sprint.com (or call Sprint if you are more comfortable and have them do the following)
- On the main page scroll down to your device
- Select "Activate a new phone" from the "Manage my device" pulldown
- Follow the instructions and activate the non-Android phone on your account (temporarily removing the EVO from your account)
- Once the non-Android phone is activated, follow all the steps to activate your voice mail account.
- Call your phone from a land line and leave yourself a message
- Open voice mail on your old phone and delete the new message and any others. Check it thoroughly to ensure no messages are saved in VM.
- Log back on to mysprint.sprint.com (or call Sprint back) and reactivate your EVO following steps 5-6 above
- Once your EVO is reactivated it should automatically re-provision your VM account.
- Follow the instructions to get your VM account setup again. If you get a "Data Call Failure: Error Code 67" message when you reactivate your Evo, you need to update your Profile
- Boot into recovery (this would be a great time to update the radios, PRI and PRL and make sure you update your profile (see link in Post #1))
- Wipe everything using both recovery and a FORMAT_ALL type zip of your choice (links in Post #1)
- Flash the ROM of your choice (you can try a nandroid, but it may or may not work cleanly, YMMV)
- Make sure to keep an eye on your bill after you do this fix as some have reported billing errors. A call to Sprint should clear things up.
Working Sprint VVM on MIUI Source & Retread
- Nandroid your current setup
- Boot into Recovery
- Perform a full wipe and flash the stock GingerSense leak or a GingerSense rom based on the leak with working voicemail T Martin's worked for me.
- Open and use voicemail to make sure it is working
- Open or install Titanium Backup and backup visual voicemail (Voicemail T.5.1.0.60)
- Boot into recovery
- Perform a full wipe and restore your nandroid
- Download and install sprint vvm from here or pull it from the GingerSense ROM
- Run Titanium Backup and restore data for visual voicemail (Voicemail T.5.1.0.60)
- Send an SMS to activate@vvm.sprint.com
- Wait 2 minutes, then reboot
See also in Post#1: Sprint VVM zip for AOSP or just download this Gapps zip w/working VVMGoogle Voice Issues Source
- Install Google Voice
- GV asks you if you want to merge your GVoice and Sprint number, select SKIP to keep your numbers separate
- GV asks which voicemail should manage your calls; if you want to keep your Sprint and GVoice voicemails separate, then you should also be skipping this step
If by accident, instead of pressing the first SKIP, you press NEXT which then merges your Sprint and GVoice numbers, logon to your Google Voice account from your browser [must be able to view in desktop mode, if from your mobile browser], click the gear icon in the upper right, and then Voice Settings.
From there click "Deactivate Google Voice on this phone." You will be prompted to punch in a two digit security code, and eventually it will be deactivated.
Then uninstall and reinstall Google Voice from the Market, and this time, hit the first SKIP. - Go into Settings > Common >Phone Security>toggle Third Party Access On
The first few calls and SMS received from Google Voice, MIUI may pop up a SuperUser prompt asking to allow Google Voice access, select Allow for both. Thank you to b0tes for this tip and fix!Streaming Music Fix (allows better functioning of streaming music players on 3G, may also improve 3G speeds) Source, Screens
- MAKE A NANDROID
- Go to the Market and download the app: MSL Reader
- Use this app to get your MSL #
- Flash to a GingerSense or Sense ROM with EPST support (Misfit's KingsROM port confirmed working, Thanks wbyrd!)
- Launch phone dialer and dial ##3282#
- Chose Edit mode
- Enter the MSL Number from above as the password
- Select Advanced
- Change HTTP PD Proxy Port to 0 (the number zero)
- Change HTTP PD Proxy Address to 0.0.0.0
- Press menu, commit changes (should say "no changes to commit")
- Back out until you are back to the dialer, then reboot
MIUI Weather App installed no problem via recovery with these zips that had been floating around XDA
- MAKE A NANDROID
- Download the appropriate zips (below)
- Flash the MIUIDev Weather zip
- Reboot
- OPEN MIUI Weather
- Boot back into recovery
- Flash the DB zip for your region
- Reboot
- Should be working now
*Credit goes to MIUI Devs for the original MIUI Weather App in English. This app will only work for so long as MIUIAndroid decides to support it. Unfortunately, the original XDA thread where these zips lived has been deleted so I don't know who to credit for creating the zips, but glad they did. Also I unfortunately do not have copies of the International DB so I can only provide for US users here. Sorry about that. If I find the international zip again, I'll post it here. MarkH (MIUIandroid) is the keeper of this app/database. Unfortunately, he decides (often on a whim) whether or not the server will run. This app is completely "hit or miss." None of us at MIUI.us has the capacity to change the situation. I am leaving this tut up because it does work when Mark keeps the server up and many users like this app. My personal recommendation is to find something more reliable. ~js

GPS MIUI Menu Settings Fix Resource
- MAKE A NANDROID
- Menu>Settings>Personal>My location
- Toggle wireless networks - ON (your wifi must be on, doesn't have to be connected)
- Toggle GPS satellites- ON
- See of GPS works, if not, go back to same menu (Menu>Settings>Personal>My location)
- Go to GPS configuration
- In NTP server address, add a 0. in front, to make it 0.north-america.pool.ntp.org
- For supl server address enter: supl.google.com
- For supl server port enter: 7276
- Select OK
**U.S. users can alternately set the NTP SERVER ADDRESS to us.pool.ntp.org. Elsewhere in North America should leave it as recommended above. Other countries see this link (4th paragraph.)GPS Status & Toolbox Fix
- MAKE A NANDROID
- Download GPS Status & Toolbox from Market
- Enable GPS
- Open GPS Status & Toolbox
- Menu > Tools > Manage A-GPS state > Reset
- Menu > Tools > Manage A-GPS state > Download
- Menu > Tools > Compass calibration > follow popup directions
Alternately you can try the new GPSFix App, which has worked for some.
GB Driver GPS Fix (For a flashable version of this fix, see this XDA Thread.) Thanks itlnstln for the tip!
- MAKE A NANDROID
- Grab the GB_EVO_GPS_Driver.zip
- Extract the driver from the zip (gps.supersonic.so)
- Copy to your SD card
- Use ES File Explorer, Root Explorer or the like to delete the existing gps.supersonic.so and then copy the new .so driver from SD card to the system/lib/hw directory
- Reboot and you should be good to go without having to flash between a Sense ROM, ## etc!
GPS EPST (##GPSCLRX#) Fix
- MAKE A NANDROID
- Go to the Market and download the app: MSL Reader
- Use this app to get your MSL #
- Flash to any GingerSense ROM (Leaked GingerSense by T Martin should work)
- Launch phone dialer and dial ##GPSCLRX# (##4772579#)
- Enter the MSL Number from above as the password
- Your phone will automatically reboot
- Once back in the GingerSense ROM open Maps or Navigation and obtain a GPS fix (This is an important step!)
- Nandroid back to MIUI and enjoy!
3G SPEED FIXES
BEFORE YOU MAKE ANY CHANGES TO YOUR PHONE, MAKE A NANDROID!!!
If one of the fixes doesn't work or you get miscellaneous errors or weirdness, I advise that you try it again with a different Sense ROM. Not all ROMs have worked for all users.
Update to the Latest Radio Fix
Obtain latest Radio, etc. here or here, place on SD and follow directions below.
To flash the new radio:
- Backup your current MIUI setup
- MAKE A NANDROID
- Flash a Sense ROM
- After you boot Sense, skip the sign-in steps (you don't need to sign in to update things; it just wastes time)
- Boot into recovery
- Flash the radio zip just like a kernel or ROM
- It will tell you to reboot and will boot into recovery on its own (the menu will not show up, Don't panic. Just wait.)
- Eventually, the menu will pop up and you're almost there
- Boot into Sense one more time
- Menu>Update and update your PRL and then profile and let it do it's thing
- Boot back into recovery
- Restore MIUI
It gets a lot easier after the first time. Also, make sure your battery is full before doing this, just to be safe. Wouldn't want your phone dying mid-radio-flash.
Excellent instructions c/o EndlessDissent.3G EPST (##DATA#) Fix
- MAKE A NANDROID
- Go to the Market and download the app: MSL Reader
- Use this app to get your MSL #
- Flash to a GingerSense ROM (I used VR_GengerSense_Revolution_B4 with success. But others have reported issues so pick your favorite.)
- Launch phone dialer and dial ##DATA# (##3282#)
- Select Edit Mode
- Enter the MSL Number from above as the password
- Select Data Profile
- Press Menu button
- Select Restore
- Your phone will enter Commit mode and automatically reboot
- Nandroid back to MIUI and enjoy better 3G speeds!
Throttle Folder Removal Fix Resource
Sorry, but I have debunked this fix. Nothing I can do will get this to work and the individuals who verified this as a working fix have not responded to my PM's. I will leave the link up for a short time for the curious or for the unlikely event that this somehow proves useful. If nothing comes of it in a couple of weeks, I will remove it. Thanks ~jsQUICK FIXES FOR TEMPORARY ISSUES
Or stiff has built a flashable zip with last week's Theme Manager to fix the issue which can be found Here. The only issue with this zip is that theme backup is still borked.MIUI EVO 1.6.3 release Theme Manager FC's
Temporary Solution: Push the Theme Manager apk from a previous build to system/app folder in 1.6.3
Method:
- MAKE A NANDROID
- Download Theme Manager apk from 4.29 or Theme Manager apk from 5.20 to SD (If any issues with dl link, please let me know.)
- Open Root Explorer (or similar app that allows writing to system)
- Navigate to sdcard/ThemeManager.apk, longpress the file and select Copy or Move
- Navigate back to the main menu via the Parent folder entry at the top of the page
- Scroll down and open the system folder then app folder
- Press Mount R/W at the top and press Paste and OK to overwrite previous apk
- Long press ThemeManager.apk and select Permissions
- In permissions, check off all three options in the column at the left and only the top entry on the other two columns (rw-r--r--) and hit OK
- That should be it (I always reboot just for posterity.)
You should now have a fully functioning Theme Manager, including the ability to backup themes which will be missing if you used 5.27 Theme Manager apk rather than the one linked above.Last edited by justs; 08-07-2011 at 12:46 PM.

Thanks.

Thanks guys. I'll clean up that gingersense link with there one endless posted.
I didn't sticky because I've been keeping the Development sub-forum really clean with a low number of posts, but I'll sticky this evening as requested.
Keep the comments and suggestions coming here in the thread so the other mods can help keep it up to date.

Ok, the TMartin ROM worked. Next question, when I do the streaming music fix, after I type in ##3282# on the phone dialer nothing seems to happen, the phone dialer locks up and nothing works other than the home key and back key. Am I missing something?
-
05-24-2011, 11:41 PM #13
I have updated the fixes with original source links. For questions on the specific fixes you can ask at those locations as well. I actually have not run the music fix, only confirmed that at least three users had achieved success. Are you dialing ##3282# in the TMartin ROM or? TMartin may not have updated EPST support so you might need to find a different sense ROM. If I find something that works, I will update the OP.

Voicemail is present and the music fix works in this ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1084221. My data speeds doubled in that ROM after doing the music fix. I restored my MIUI backup ran a speed test and the results were very low (download .02Mbps, upload .07Mbps). I waited about five minutes and ran another speed test and results were way up (download .46Mbps, upload .20Mbps). And for the first time since starting to use the MIUI ROM my 3G notification actually shows up! So for the time being it seems as if this fix does do something.
