I'm using Trinity, it even has "MIUI flavored version" (TUV10-MIUI-Any-NS+4G-30082011):

I don't use over-clocking, it always cause me restarts. with this one everything works awesome,
and the battery can even lasts me for 36 hours without massive use.

best might be defined by your needs.

that being said, i agree with ariel2011. Trinity is a wonderful kernel. Morfic has several flavors from UV for power saving, to OC for pure speed.
    Phone: Samsung Nexus S
    Recovery: TeamWin Recovery Project (TWRP)
    ROM: MIUI (latest)
    Kernel: Modified Trinity XXTEUV88

Bugless Pete. Smooth UI performance, good battery life, no random crashes of glitches as some kernels I've tried.

I run 1.2ghz, conservative, noop scheduler.

So far the best performance for me has come down to matrix but it keeps rebooting every time I put it through its paces. Trinity I never liked and will never use not only because of the 666 in the name once installed but also some weird audio file that seems to be playing backwords inside the zip on one of the folders. Still waiting for something better to come along

After trying a few kernels, Netarchy 1.4.0 seems to be the best for me. Very stable, great battery life on the Smartass governor, and the BLN app isn't required for notifications to work.

Re: what's the best kernel for nexus s?

I would recommend you Netarchy 1.4.0 or bugless pete. They have great battery life, and you can also configure BNS app for notifications, they would be smooth and fast.
