[HOWTO] Ingredients for an Extremely Fast MIUI Powered Evo (MIUI 1.8.12 SOON!))
Hey everyone, thought I'de share my recipe for an extremely fast ROM with zero FC issues. I'll start with my setup. Note that I am using latest radios/PRI etc. Perform a FULL WIPE (I used calkulin's format_all.zip).
UPDATE: I deleted some bloat on the phone (extra wallpapers, lockscreens, ringtones, notifications, etc.) and was able to get the system size (first number in the 108/6 partition) down to 104.45mb. With this, I edited the mtd txt file to 108/6 and redid my partitions also using a 6mb cache size. Of course, if you play any games or use graphics heavy apps, it would be a good idea to keep the cache size in the 150mb range for smoother performance. But, since I don't play any games on my phone 6mb will do. This raised my internal memory storage to 823mb! To check your system file size, just use root explorer and navigate to the /system folder and see how much space you are using, then edit the .txt file to your own liking.
MTD IS FOR ADVANCED USERS ONLY, THANKS AND HAVE FUN

How long have you been running the MTD hack? I tried it out on my G1 when Firerat first came out with it, but had not ventured that way with the EVO. Is there any work to be done when you flash new ROMs/versions or does it just stick through it all?

05-17-2011, 05:32 PM #3You have to wipe and reapply the mod everytime you flash a new kernel or rom. I've been running the MTD hack for the past few builds no problems. Here's what they say in the thread, just follow the instructions. It's fairly simple to do.

2. Reboot into recovery
3. Make a Nandroid backup if you didn't already
4. Format cache, data & system partitions using my FORMAT_ALL.zip for ease
6. Flash FR_Recovery_CustomMTD_v1.5.7b_for_EVO.zip(this patches the recovery to use the custom partition sizes)
7. Reboot into recovery again
8. Restore Nandroid backup or flash new ROM but don't reboot
9. Flash FR_Boot_CustomMTD_v1.5.7b_for_EVO.zip(this patches the kernel to load the custom partition sizes)
10. Reboot
NOTE: Every time you flash a new ROM or kernel, you must flash the FR_Boot_CustomMTD_v1.5.7b_for_EVO.zip afterwards, so the kernel gets modded to load the custom partition sizesLast edited by TheRatDogMan; 05-17-2011 at 07:00 PM.

I have been using the custom MTD partition for the last 4 builds and I love it and haven't had any issues.

Are you using the -50mV mod listed here? http://viperboy.tiamat-aosp.com/downloads.php
Why not use the BSM v2.x?

I am curious though...I have been runing the mtd mod, but am not running the voltage mod or DTA2SD...would running both of these mods help the fluidness of the overall rom.

I've always kind of wondered. Can you do damage to your cpu/other hardware with overclocking like that?

05-18-2011, 02:48 AM #14Yes, it is possible. I've had my phone overclocked since I bought it though and have had no problems (about 10 months).

I tried setting this up and I have everything set except for the apps2sd mod as I don't really see a need for it. The only real problem is the overclocking. When I try to run it on 1190, even with the -50 Voltage tweak, my phone goes through an infinite battle with itself to stay alive. Do you have a different hardware than I do? Mine is 0003, so if yours is 0004, then that might be what's making the difference.

Could be, I'm on an older HW. Couldn't tell ya which one. I would recommend just skipping the under volt mod, as using a governor/over-clock will give you better results that just using the mod itself.
Tiamat will give you better battery life. I observed around 5 extra hours per charge, which didn't make too much of a different for me since my battery already lasts more than a day as is. Try the undervolt mod + a different setCPU governor.
Did you place the .img file on the root of your sd before going into the bootloader? You have to perform the update on the bootloader screen, accept update, then don't reboot. It'll then let you go into Amon RA. After this, it should by default boot into Amon RA instead of Clockwork Mod

I got over 48 hours on my phone last weekend while roaming on a voice signal only, no data. Never turned the phone off once, drove 6 hours through the mountains, camped for two days, sent about 20 text messages, still had 35% battery left when I plugged the phone in to my car charger for the drive home. My dad had to charge his unrooted phone twice, but I'm sure the old man probably still had wifi and GPS on!
