Sorry I missed your previous post. Glad you got it working. More often than not issues are related to kernel. Some kernels do not support DTa2sd. Most do. Good luck with your set up, I hope it gives you a little more freedom to run your EVO the way you want it.

Hi, first of all thanks, and also, shouldn't this be in the General Forum? It seems a lot of replies here (including me) have phones other than the Evo.

Secondly, I flashed different versions of miui a couple of times now always after a complete wipe. I've set it up correctly (ext 3 partition on my sd card) and Miui has always recognized it under Settings->Sd-Card. Also a2sd check reported no errors (no [x] but plenty [-] though).
Still, after each and every first boot it would ignore my sd-ext and install new apps into the internal storage. Also, sd-ext would be empty (no 'app' and 'app-private' directory).
I then had to run a2sd repair for it to work. It would then create the sym-links and folders on sd-ext and move all apps into it.
So it seems the a2sd (darktremor) that comes with miui never really initiated after flashing.

    Any thoughts on that?

If one of the main mods wants to move it to General, that's fine. I started it for EVO users and only had an EVO to test on so I put it here, but you are correct in that it mostly applies to Android 2.2+, thus not necessarily handset specific.

I find that on MIUI the first boot is really not what you want to go off of. I always recommend multiple reboots after ANY changes. It has been this way since the beginning. Some have never had this issue, but most have.
Personally, I have never had to run a2sd repair. I just follow the steps outlined in the OP and it works every time without fail.

Now I'm not so sure that MIUI has DTa2sd baked in, based on the number of users who have to manually set it up, I do know that MIUI supports a2sd/ext function. I've never been a fan of the basic FroYo a2sd function which is why I use DTas2d. That said, I'm no expert, I just know what works for me and that is the weekly ritual outlined in the OP. If someone finds a better way, that would be awesome, but in the interim it is a pretty simple process, completed in seconds so it's what I would go with.

Also, I updated the OP with this, but you might check out Link2SD. I haven't tried it because I'm on the SGSII and don't really need a2sd any longer, but from the description, it seems like an app version of the DTa2sd function. Maybe give it a whirl and see what you think.

This happened to me and I scratched my head over it for a bit. Finally figured out the fix, you just need to install the a2sd. Granted, this is an old post so you may have figured this out already.

Anyway, open the terminal, type 'su' and hit enter. Type 'a2sd install' and hit enter, and then let it do its stuff and it will reboot. I've also moved the cache to the SD (command is cachesd) to free up some more space, doesn't seem to have hurt any performance.

    Re: [HOWTO] DTa2sd on MIUI

I followed the setup in the first post and got an error about the script being deprecated, and the installation was aborted. Any clues?

What version/porter? And did you flash the zip in the thread or go with MIUI's stock?

    Re: [HOWTO] DTa2sd on MIUI

I could use some help brainstorming why I can't get a2sd to work. I'm on an HTC Inspire, Miui.us 2.3.9, Tiamat kernel 1.1.5, Inspiremod 0.5.
I have never been able to use a2sd since I first got onto Miui. So, for a while, I just used market apps (apps2sd or Gemini). But I'd rather not do it that way.

I have absolutely created an ext3 partition in CWM recovery, and I see that folder in ES Explorer. It continues never to be found during nandroid backups, etc. I recently flashed DTa2sd 2.7 beta 5, which failed installation due to script errors. I then flashed the beta 4, as suggested here. I get a message of successful installation, but I still get no a2sd when I check Titanium or in Terminal. It just says it's not found. So, any other thoughts? Could my kernel or inspiremod be affecting the install? Doesn't seem likely...

    Re: [HOWTO] DTa2sd on MIUI

Might be because this is the Evo forum? I dunno if that zip is universal or specifically for Evo, but if there's a version for the Inspire you should be using that one.

Sorry, I should have specified that I did find the download on a DHD/Inspire thread, I meant that it was the same release version. :-)

    Re: [HOWTO] DTa2sd on MIUI

But the fact that you have a DHD/Inspire means you'd probably get better support in that forum. TBH my only suggestion is to back up all your apps/data and full-wipe and reflash.

    Re: [HOWTO] DTa2sd on MIUI

I prefer the excellent app Link2SD rather than automatic A2SD (baked in); allows me to only move specific apps to/from ext.

But on MIUI, I get issues with it -- it does not have access to ext partition, cannot create boot script etc..

I tried doing "a2sd uninstall" (or remove? can't remember!) via adb, and rebooting, but still no go.

How do I use Link2SD with MIUI?

    thanks!

    Re: [HOWTO] DTa2sd on MIUI

I have the same issues. I have 2 evo's and I have been imaging each new revision onto the test phone and I cant get LINK2SD to work with any of the new revisions.
My everyday phone is running: 2.6.16 with 2.6.38.8 Tiamat _evo v4.1.0+ kernal.

I think link2sd does a great job and that is whats keeping me from upgrading versions
