Just an update on the a2sdgui reading the ext3 / ext4 partition as ext2. For some reason after flashing 1.6.17 with a fresh install, a2sdgui just started seeing the ext3 as ext3! It continues to work in 1.6.24.

I have an EXT3 partition set up on my phone. But lately I've been getting "Low memory" notifications from the phone itself and Tasker too. When I checked the available space under the app menu it said I only have 62MB free. Is this right? Shouldn't I have another 500MB or so?

The 62MB you are seeing is for the phone internal storage. Looks like your A2SD is set up correctly, the EXT partition is being used; one explanation for low internal storage is your data/dalvik cache is quite large (which would not be surprising, giving you have enough apps to fill 500MB ). You can move data or dalvik to SD as well, though I've heard there are performance problems if you have a low-class SD card. Anyways, you can run:
    For data:
    su
    a2sd datasd

    For dalvik:
    su
    a2sd cachesd

Run the above either in terminal app or adb shell to move data/dalvik to SD. If you are seeing performance problems, you can always move them back to SD with

    a2sd nodata
    or/and
    a2sd nocache

Personally, I run both dalvik and data from internal storage, and I have about 110mb available (I have about 150 apps). Alternatively, you may want to delete data for some of your apps and start fresh (tweetdeck for example eats data like no tomorrow).

Thanks for the help. I actually have 78 apps. I do have tweetdeck in there though. I moved some of my apps to my SD card which freed up space to 120MB, but it bugs me that some of them will give me an error "There is not enough free space" and then I can turn around and move a larger app without any problems.

I'm saving your instructions to use if my tweaking doesn't cure the issue over the next few days.

Not ideal, but I have done so with success a time or two. Check Titanium Backup and see if the a2sd partition number seems legit. If not, you may have to visit DT's thread on XDA and run some additional commands.

Very unlikely that it is directly related to DTa2sd, but you could go back to your nandroid and try it again. Sometimes things just get mucked up. Worst case scenario, reflash the ROM followed by DTa2sd in the same recovery session.

says this device does not support a2sd+

I partitioned my SD with rom manager before flashing MIUI but settings say "this device does not support a2sd+". It did allow me to move a couple apps to SD but not the same apps as I was able to on other roms. Any suggestions?

If you are moving any apps to SD, you are not using DTa2sd. DTa2sd works with symlinks. Everything happens automatically. Nothing actually moves to the SD in the traditional sense. Did you follow the procedure I have listed in the OP? I've never seen nor heard of that error message on the EVO.

Ok I read through entire post so I hope I didn't miss anything.

My problem is that when I flashed Rom last time as well as the DTA2SD zip my programs returned automaticall without running MIUI Backup.
    I thought... Cool!
Then I noticed that none of the apps settings were restored. So all account info and memory of past seemed to be gone.
    What happened?

I just flashed 1.7.8 along with the dark tremors a2sd. Most of my apps seemed to be on the sd-ext. However there were a few that were missing. Also all the previous settings for the applications were lost. So I used titanium back-up to restore the missing apps and settings. The problem is when I ran the back-up titanium installed them on my internal memory and not the sd-ext. Is there something I'm doing wrong? How can I get titanium back up to restore the apps to the sd-ext?

DT a2sd works using symlinks not by physically moving apps. Any apps appearing on the SD-ext will have been moved there via FroYo a2sd. I never use native a2sd, nor do I move any apps to sd. DTa2sd has been perfect for me. Look in TB and see what the characteristics of the three options (internal, sd, a2sd) look like. It will be very obvious whether DTa2sd took effect or not. You can also run the terminal commands outlined in the OP and links.

@ryjack + prescott, I always restore via TB and always flash DTa2sd with every MIUI update. Never have any issues. I would not rely on DTa2sd to restore apps/data. DTa2sd is meant to provide additional room and speed, not for backup/restore.

Partitioned my card for the first time ever. Used swap 32mb. 1024ext and then remainder fat32. I upgraded to ext3. Installed Dt and reboot. Now my phone keeps reseting.....can someone help me finish this out? Btw.....I didnt wipe everything.

Edit: now I'm confused. Earlier I rebooted the phone and I saw a lot of apps on screen that wasn't installed. But now I took the battery out to stop the resets replaced it and rebooted and now everything is back to normal. I see the a2sd running with card partitioned. All apps are here. Learning curve.

Sorry I didn't catch your post. Good to see you got it working. Going forward I would advise flashing DTa2sd with every ROM update. Might be overkill in some cases, but it is quick and easy and you do it in the same recovery session, so it is a no-brainer IMHO.

Yes and no. The steps should be the same, but the zip is definitely different. Go to the DTa2sd link in the OP and you should be able to find DTa2sd for whatever device you are on (provided he supports it.)

This is all goodness!!! So this is BEST done with a NEW INSTALL?!?!? I flashed DTa2sd this morning and I now have apps (icons on my launcher screens more specifically) missing, and/or I cannot access them either way thru the app-drawer (Go Launcher EX)... So is this because I flashed DTa2sd Version 2.7.5.3 Beta 04 over an existing MiUi (v1.9.30) installation (on an MT4G if it matters)??? And... If I do a fresh install and WIPE (I already have an Ext4 set up) will Titanium Backup know where to send the apps I have backed-up from the previous installation and app locations??? This morning after I installed DTa2sd Version 2.7.5.3 Beta 04 I got all kinds of errors and FC's and my memory was totally gone making my phone basically un-usable... But Titanium Backup DID show the reference to SD card [a2sd] at the bottom... I dont recall the exact storage sizes left but it was in the kb-ranges not the Mb or Gb ranges...
