I am having exactly the same issues.

Ditto! I was hoping to use this as a daily rom. But without the status bar on top and that popup coming every now and then, the rom is practically useless! Help guys!

Okay, I flashed the new official 2.8.17 ROM with the stock kernel and it works fine So finally, m on MIUI now Those of stuck with System UI error, can try the same.

Where do you get 2.8.17? When I go to roms.miui.us I only see 2.8.10 as an option for HTC Desire S

2.8.24 gives the same problem as 2.8.10 ... does anybody check these ROMs? As far as I can tell, the last ROM that actually worked on the Desire S was 2.7.13....

Could not run any 2.8.xx release on my Desire S.

My actions:
- reboot to recovery
- wipe / and cache
- install zip from sdcard
- fix permissions
- reboot

After all I see green HTC logo on white, after a second or two screen became black, aaaand - thats all.

Battery out/in, recovery, install 2.7.13 back.

Any ideas?

i have just installed MIUI.us_saga_v4_2.9.7_Eng_Deo_ZipA_Signed.zip and got Force close with System IU and MIUI Updater...
Who can show me how to fix that...System IU force close too many times...Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeee....

How do you update the hboot version?
I had same problem last week - couldn't get latest rom to boot.

Tutorial if you DONT have 4.0 / Updated HBOOT
1.You need S-OFF and HBOOT 7.0. If you have HBOOT 6.8 follow steps 2
2.Rename the file PG88IMG_hboot7.0.zip to PG88IMG.zip. Follow Steps (4-7)
3.If you have HBOOT 7.0 and S-OFF. Flash this PG88IMG_SAGA_ICS.zip.
4.Place on root of SD Card.
5.Turn phone off.
6.Boot with Vol Down and Power to enter Fastboot (or adb reboot bootloader)
7.Press vol key. That will start update of HBOOT. Restart at step 3
8.After you have HBOOT 7.0 and HTC 4.0, you must flash a new recovery.
9.There is a file for every OS (ends in .bat -> Windows, etc)
10.Double check that file for your OS and it'll flash a new recovery.
11.Then flash MIUI ZIP via Recovery

- In airplane mode WIFI disconnects after couple sec., even when I'm using it (i.e. downloading something from market).
- Music app doesn't work. It goes "Unfortunately, Music has stopped" when I try to run it.
There's other minor glitches, but these two are the most annoying ones.
Been runnin' MIUI 2.3 without any problems for soo long and I'm kinda annoyed that I upgraded to 4.0.

It never failed me.

Do you mean a black screen early in bootup (after HTC screen, before MIUI splash screen), or later? If earlier, did you try fastboot flash boot.img? This will probably fix it.

I did multiple clean installs of 2.8.3 and 2.8.10 - phone started up and was functional, but got "System UI has stopped" on bootup, and never had a status bar along the top...

Doesn't fix it for me. I don't know what I got with 2.8.3 and 2.8.10, but probably the same as with the latest rom (2.9.28): the HTC logo and then a black screen. adb shell doesnt work (which does work in recovery).

Edit: I'm sticking with 2.7.13 for now. That rom at least works (for me), without doing any fastboot flash stuff.

I finally got it working! I followed the instructions here (thanks to masianna) and installed MIUI 2.10.26. The first time I got the System UI error and no top bar. But after rebooting the system ui error did not appear and the top bar worked as expected. Music didn't work until I restored the backup (and installed MIUI again...).
There are a lot new features in this version, like FM radio and virus scanner.

What I have done (in big steps, see tutorial for details):

• Flash HBOOT of step 2 (just follow steps there)
• Flash HBOOT of step 3 (same, just takes veeeerrry long, and probably failed, but it worked anyway)
• fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-saga.img (file is in the adb directory)
• Nearly finished! Now flash a new ROM as usual.

Edit: Note: remember to remove the HBOOT zip after flashing it!
Edit 2: The stuttering of the music has become much less. Probably because it has the official (?) kernel now.
Edit 3: See next post for System UI fix.
Edit 4: I didn't previously flash the official HTC ICS rom. My HBOOT before flashing was something like 1.98.1002 or something. Now I have HBOOT 7.00.1002 and this HBOOT apparently works.
