Miui won't boot :(

I hope someone can help

I installed miui on my new phone through clockworkmod recovery a couple of days ago. I've turned it off and on again a few times since then with no problem. I just switched it off to insert the new sim, and when I switched it back on miui won't load, it just hangs at the boot screen with the gears turning and won't go anywhere.

Is there anything I can try? Is there a way I can back up my settings and stuff first?

If I have to reinstall miui and lose all my stuff then I think I'll go back to the stock ROM because I can't risk this happening again.

Can anybody help?

Update, I did a CWM backup and reinstalled miui, any ideas which options in the advanced restore I should choose to restore my stuff but not restore the problem?

Just restore the data partition. That contains your apps and personal data. Don't forget to wipe the dalvick and cache too.
