Lightbulb Tutorial: Blackrose (Custom Hboot) Installation for Miui 2.6.8+

    Hi Guys,

After version 2.4.20, every new updates failed and I was stuck (on Nexus logo and return to recovery). Newer version of Miui require higher memory . What's the solution? Blackrose (BR) installation.

If you search BR HBOOT and check the thread, you will find this link:
    link

The OP has instructions for Win, Linux, and Mac. I tried all of them but installed BR with windows

I believe there are some bugs with "Linux" app, so use "windows".

Do it at your own risk!

    Requirements:

    Supported hboots:
    0.33.0012
    0.33.2012
    0.35.0017
    0.35.2017

-goto fastboot mode and check yours. You might need it in the installation process.
-Android SDK installed -->"ADB" and Google usb driver

    SDK installation
    Get SDK

On Windows: Extract the file wherever you like, and click on SDK icon. Check "Tools" and your desired API version (you can select the latest).
select Google USB Driver from "extra" options. Download and apply. Close SDK. ADB should be installed in "platform-tools".

On Linux/Mac:Extract file and open terminal. Goto path/to/sdk/tools and run --> ./android
if permission denied --> chmod +x android
Now SDK app opens same as windows and update it as explained above.

    USB DRIVER (Windows)
Usually USB driver needs to be configured in windows. The usb driver is in SDK/Extra. Open windows "start menu" and click right on computer --> device manager > find Other devices > Right click Nexus and install usb driver by selecting the file from SDK/extra. Now ADB command should work. (if adb is not in your bin, you should either export it or go to sdk/platform-tools and rub adb command from there). Run > adb devices
If you see a serial number, adb is working.

    1] Backup

    2] Download BR and manual
    Blackrose-120421

    BR-Manual

3] Download Recovery Image (Clockwork /Amon_RA)

    Clockwork
    Amon_RA

Note:U will lose recovery in the process so you need to reinstall it.

    Installation

As shown in youtube by op, windows users can easily run the blackrose.exe.
Connect usb. click on exe file. Wait for a while and and you should have a successful installation. Then close app and rerun it. This time you will see some options: choose option 1 (stock.custom) and then option 2. type resize. First value 220 and second one 10 (or 16)
and your are done. To double check, turn off phone, goto fastboot mode (hold down trackball and power button). black message at the top: BR hboot 7.35.5017. Done!

For some people (like me), BR app was stock on "waiting for device" message and it was rebooted into fastboot mode (used Linux version so i dont recommend it for now). If that is your case, don't panic. Read the text file in the manual and see which file is for you: go2.lol, go33.lol or go35.lol based on you hboot number. Then follow these steps:

1] Go to fastboot mode (usb) on your device. Then, go to BR-manual folder and copy your CMW/AMon_RA recovery image. Open terminal. At this moment, when u run adb devices you wouldnt see the serial number which is normal.
    2] Flash goXX.lol --> fastboot flash recovery goxx.lol
3] Now flash CWM or Amon_RA --> fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-passion.img
4] Flash blackrose hboot --> fastboot flash hboot hboot_blackrose.nb0
    5] Reload bootloader -> fastboot reboot-bootloader

You should see blackrose version at the top of the screen.

6] Reboot your phone. Only on Windows, run blackrose.exe. Now "waiting for device" wouldnt take that long and you should see the options. Follow what I explained for resizing above.

7] Go to recovery mode and wipe cache and delvic. Flash Rom 2.6.8. Enjoy!

***If gmail or play store is not there, you need to flash miui_gapps too. Or install play store app from here and then install gmail from market. There is a bug in 2.6.8 gmail and it would be corrected after market update.

Unhappy Re: Tutorial: Blackrose (Custom Hboot) Installation for Miui 2.6.8+

I couldn't get Blackrose.exe to detect my device, so I followed the Blackrose_Manual method. I got Blackrose flashed to the phone and it's now S-OFF. The HBOOT version is now 7.35.5017 (PB9910000) - this was earlier 0.35.0017.

However, after all this, when I run Blackrose and reboot the phone, it says waiting for device and then this...

    Code:
    * Getting device information...
link_image[1943]: 97 could not load needed library 'liblog.so' for 'getprop' (load_library[1098]: Library 'liblog.so' not found)CANNOT LINK EXECUTABLE
link_image[1943]: 100 could not load needed library 'liblog.so' for 'getprop' (load_library[1098]: Library 'liblog.so' not found)CANNOT LINK EXECUTABLE
link_image[1943]: 103 could not load needed library 'liblog.so' for 'getprop' (load_library[1098]: Library 'liblog.so' not found)CANNOT LINK EXECUTABLE

link_image[1943]: 113 could not load needed library 'liblog.so' for 'rm' (load_library[1098]: Library 'liblog.so' not found)CANNOT LINK EXECUTABLE
     * Your HBOOT is not supported
    Now what?

I need to resize the partition (currently 145/95/196) and install MIUI v4 2.7.6.

    Thanks.

    Update:

I just typed "blackrose editor" and got into a manual editor mode. Typed resize, entered 220, 16, gave it a name and it saved it as a custom HBOOT file. I got back into fastboot and flashed that custom HBOOT, rebooted, and voila.. 220/16/200! Now on to installing MIUI...

    Update: It works! :-D
