installation help
It has been a while since I installed a rom on my droid x. Can someone just give me a quick run down of the process involved. I'm looking to install the newest rom. Below is my current configuration. I installed that rom when it first was released and it is giving me some issues so I need to update. (crashing, rebooting, freezing, drop data, phone heating up, etc)
Current config.
Build number - Miui-Miui ICS 2.1.6
Kernel - 2.6.32.9-g34b306d

Thanks in advance.

Re: installation help
I'd just boot to CWM recovery, run a nandroid backup if you'd ever like to get back to where you are now, wipe data\cache, install zip from SD, install gapps from SD.
Now what I'd love to know is if I could get away with no data wipe coming from 2.5.4 for my wife's phone. I never mind because I use Titanium backup, but it's more of a pain for her phone.

Re: installation help
I installed it last night for a second time. First time I installed it something messed up and it didn't work. I was stuck with the red motorola logo. Let it sit for 30 minutes figuring it would be the longest boot but it never went away. Ended up having to go back to factory settings with 2.3.3. I then dropped it back to a version of 2.2 and rooted the phone and installed a rooted version of 2.3.3. I then used droid 2 boostrapper to get into recovery. Installed everything like I did the first time. Only different was I wiped the cache in the advanced options. Can't remember what it was called off the top of my head but someone suggested I do it. This time everything booted just perfectly. I really love this rom. Way better then the last one I was using. And so far no hickups. Just wish the battery life was better than it is. Not really a big thing for me since my charger is always close by and it charges my phone from dead in roughly 30 minutes.

Re: installation help
Always wipe cache, Dalvik cache and do a factory restore when installing a rom. Even if it's the same but updated version. Do a Nandroid backup first... always. I use MIUI backup religiously to restore most of my stuff after install. It works pretty well, but don't rely on it to keep calls and messages.

Re: installation help
Ok this is a little off topic of the OP but I am trying to install and iphone theme. (please no flack for it) anyway I've tried several of them and no matter what the SMS, settings, dialer etc do not change to the theme and I don't know why. I download the theme I place it in miui/theme and apply via themes but still and of course I reboot but still to no avail. So could someone please shed light on why I can't get this to work.

If your using ICS version 2.7.6 then the themes do not work period. Flash a older version if you wish to have themes working.

Re: installation help
Actually I realized that its not as simple as just doing that, at least not for me. In order for something to theme even having dirty flashed, a theme that applies everything will need to be applied while on 2.6.29 before dirty flashing to 2.7.6. If sms is not themed before the flash, it will not theme after dirty flashing. At least for me it wouldnt. I went back to 2.6.29 and just stayed there waiting for next update
