Re: [ROM] MIUI ICS 2.3.30
Do you get a dialog when downloading apps that say it's too big and needs to be downloaded on WIFI? I was getting that same dialog and had to go in MIUI's downloader and disable that feature completely. After that I was able to install applications from the market without a problem. If you find the Download app, go into it and under Settings you can turn off Data download prompt and set the limit to a high number just in case.
And as far as the activity of 3G and 1X I wouldnt count on that display to be of any use... I think they are tied into the same problem the signal bar has where it's showing no signal.
So, let me get this right... if I go to the running apps and close them, along with sync services, and then re-enable them one by one I might get lucky with my wifes phone and not have to redo it completely? I really would love that because I am just waiting for the next release of MIUI v4 before I redo her phone since some of the features require a data wipe and all that stuff... I figure it's a good starting point for her.

Re: [ROM] MIUI ICS 2.3.30
Yes. That is the dialog I get but, I didn't know I could disable it or even that it had settings of it's own. I will try that out, thanks! I wasn't really counting on the display being of any use since I thought 500kbps was considered 3G but, I'm not sure.
For the force closes: What I did was go to "Settings" then "Accounts & Sync" and under manage accounts I turned off syncing for everything. Then I toggled "Background data" to "OFF" and clicked "OK" on the prompt. At this point my voicemail popped up, (which had been left an hour earlier) so I knew that something had changed. I tested things that I kept getting the force closes on, (ie. anywhere that uses the keyboard) and no force closes occurred. I then went back to the settings and re-enabled the background data. No force closes occurred at this point so I re-enabled the sync for the programs I want to sync data. After testing that nothing was force closing anymore, I restarted just to make sure and as of now, I am happy to say that I still have no force closes. It has now been about 3 hours force close free.

Re: [ROM] MIUI ICS 2.3.30
One thing I forgot to mention was that I noticed that the call log no longer added outgoing or incoming calls to it's list. To fix this, I went to "Settings" then "Programs" tab at top and then to "Manage Applications". Clicked the "All" tab and then scrolled down and clicked on "Contacts and dialer". I then clicked "Clear data" and now my outgoing calls are added to the call log. Just thought I'd mention it in case the same happened to you. I am not sure what data is lost when clearing this app's data but, it did not clear my contacts or my call log as I expected it to do. You might want to back up her contacts just in case though if you have this problem.

Re: [ROM] MIUI ICS 2.3.30
Thank you for your solution to disabling the download prompt. It does indeed work.
Every once in a while the market will tell me the connection timed out though. Do you get that?

Usually get that when switching from wifi to data or vice versa. I hold the back button to close the app and then restart it and it's fine.

Re: [ROM] MIUI ICS 2.3.30
First of all, please don't take this as me griping about things not working because I'm not. These are merely what I have observed from using this ROM for today. Anyway, here is a list of what I have found to not work/to be wrong:
Some things are not in English or are not spelled correctly (this is a petty item)
Messaging app shows time in military format instead of 24 hour when first opened (where you can see txt previews, another petty item)
I cannot find a setting for when an app has black text on a dark background. (My previous MIUI ROM called this compatibility mode and was in the same place where you can clear an app's data.) - Lookout Mobile's notification bar is an example of an app needing this modification
When a theme asks to restart because it needs a font, upon clicking restart the phone reboots to recovery mode instead of performing a normal reboot
Data connections will sometimes drop (downloads get interrupted, connections timeout, etc.)
GPS never gets a lock
Voice to text does not work when using wifi
Messaging app does not split large text messages even though it shows that they will be split. As a result, these messages fail to send and keep asking to retry the send - known issue on my previous MIUI ROM
MMS does not work when using wifi - known issue on my previous MIUI ROM
LED color settings do not work and I don't think the device actually supports anything but white anyway
Just for clarification, these are known problems for this ROM and also do not work/are wrong for me:
"Roaming Indicator Off" is always displayed in notification area
Buggy signal bar
Torch
Most of these are not important to me but, the ones I would really like to see fixed are Torch, GPS and splitting large txt messages as these are what I use the most. Everything else I don't care about (except maybe in call volume but, I can live with that one).
One piece of good news I have is that wireless tether does work when using "Android WiFi Tether 3.1-beta12" app with Device-Profile set to "Samsung Galaxy S2" which can be found at http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether (this didn't work at first but, after a reboot it started working)
As always, the MIUI community has delivered another great ROM and a special thank you goes out to weblexa for bringing MIUI ICS to the Mez. Overall you've done a great job and I really appreciate the work you do in your spare time for the community!
EDIT:
I also cannot find how to sort folders.
EDIT2:
I applied a theme and found that the dialer, contacts, messaging, settings and boot animation are not themed. I then applied another theme to see if it was just the one not working. Neither theme would work on these parts of the UI even though they were supposed to. The icons from the first theme applied will not change either. I then decided that a wipe of the dalvik-cache might help. I first used the "Wipe cache and dalvik cache" item in the recovery menu. This did nothing so I decided to try the "Wipe Dalvik Cache" item within the advanced menu of recovery. This made the phone continuously boot to recovery, even after a battery pull. I am not sure what I did to get the phone back to normal booting. I issued a command through adb I found online for this issue and it did not work so I used Odin to flash my "cwm4_fixed_for_cm7-ODIN.tar" file and the result was the same. I then turned the phone off, took it to work and attempted to show someone what it was doing because they didn't understand what a boot-loop was. I got interrupted, sat the phone down after leaving it at the recovery menu and when I came back, the phone had booted up. Strange. I do not know what happened.
However, as a result of my experience, I am going to go out on a limb and say that themes are broken.Last edited by netman74501; 04-21-2012 at 12:50 AM. Reason: Deleted comment about in call volume; Added LED colors

Re: [ROM] MIUI ICS 2.3.30
After using this ROM for about a week, I have decided that I am going back to my previous version as there doesn't seem to be any further development taking place on this ROM and I am now experiencing issues with the phone overheating while it is "charging". I say "charging" because sometimes it will actually drain the battery instead of charging it. I have to unplug it and then plug it back in a few times or reboot it before the phone will actually charge without overheating. I don't know if it is an app or something else causing it but, I definitely am not comfortable with my phone overheating. The system process will sometimes force close so maybe that is the issue. I also miss my GPS and Torch too much and have phantom back button problems when in a low signal area... apps also don't always see a network connection, even when I should have a full signal (ie Opera, Facebook).
I do like the ROM and it does seem a little bit faster but, it's just not ready for everyday use IMHO.Last edited by netman74501; 04-29-2012 at 03:43 PM.

Re: [ROM] MIUI ICS 2.3.30
Awesome work weblexa. I just wanted to add that whether by chance or design this build will also work on the showcase. The only problem I'm having is BLN not working, but I suspect that will be fixed once the standard kernels are being used again.
Also, apparently the showcase forum link redirects to the mesmerize forum now. Not sure why that is.

Re: [ROM] MIUI ICS 2.3.30
Yeah, the Showcase is so similar to the Fascinate that the ROMs are mostly compatible. The Showcase port just has a few tweaks added, like the carrier label and a couple other things.
I'll have to take a look at the Showcase thread, definately shouldn't be redirecting to the Mesmerize forum. I'll get that fixed in a jiffy.

Re: [ROM] Official MIUI ICS
Do I have to wipe data? It booted fine... had to install superuser from market to get root privileges.
2.4.6 Full Changelog:
[Phone]
New MIUI phone interface and functionality (requires data wipe)
Also... instead of Roaming Notifier On/Off now it says U S S C Wireless, isn't it supposed to be USCC Wireless? Would look better without spaces maybe. Honestly don't care for the carrier name there, but some people might want it
I remember in Gingerbread MIUI, I had a flashable that let me customize the text there and center the clock instead, it looked much cooler!
But now, this is what it looks like:
Should look like this...
I'm assuming the edit is in eri.xml so just need to change "U S S C Wireless" to "U.S. Cellular". I'm going to look up if this is something I can do myself... would rather have it say my name for the sake of customization... not sure how hard it is to do!Last edited by alaindesjardins; 04-30-2012 at 11:09 PM.

Re: [ROM] Official MIUI ICS
Turns out to be quite a project to edit eri.xml...
Found a post here... http://rootzwiki.com/topic/20296-ics...e/page__st__30 which brings you to http://pastebin.com/7YBNT9X4
If you copy that and put it in a txt file, edit "C Spire wireless" to say whatever you want, save then rename it to eri.xml and place it in /data and then go in airplane mode and back out you will have it fixed. Not sure if there is anything special in eri.xml compared to that pastebin, but the hex editing did not work for me. Don't have to remove the eri.xml in the framework-res.apk file, placing it in /data overrides that.
Sorry for my noobness, but I learnt a few things here

Re: [ROM] Official MIUI ICS
Just wiped data and now I cannot add my google account for the market to work. Which means I can't add titanium backup or superuser to restore my settings. I don't know how to fix that
I have no root access and can't get my work email.
Unrelated question:
What exactly gets edited to make the fascinate rom a mesmerize rom? Just trying to understand what happens...
Edit: I was able to install superuser.apk and titaniumbackup.apk to get those working but when i flash gapps, i cannot add my google account so market and gmail don't work. When I restore account settings from titanium, gmail force closes and google processes start failing in cascades.
I've redone everything from ground up and just cannot get it to work...
I'm gona reflash 2.3.30 and work with that until something new happens. Been up for 4 hours longer than I expected trying to get this to work.
Edit2: I was able to get it to work.
Odin to Stock
Booted up
Odin cwm4 recovery
Boot to recovery
Flashed teamhacksung build 2
Booted up
Back to recovery
Wiped Cache and Davlik
Flash MIUI 2.4.27
Booted up
Back to recovery using Updater app
Flashed gapps from http://goo.im/gapps
Booted up
Data wipe
After doing that when everything came back up, Google was working and I was able to add my google account and apps. I downloaded SU apk from http://androidsu.com/superuser/ and just unzipped the file to get the apk only. Replaced my eri.xml file I worked up earlier and now I have the right carrier showing instead of U S S C Wireless.
I hope this helps anyone having the same issues I had.Last edited by alaindesjardins; 05-01-2012 at 09:49 AM.

Re: [ROM] Official MIUI ICS
Yeah, for some reason, the gapps package is giving people a lot of trouble. I'm not sure why its not working, I had a real hard time getting gapps flashed as well so I'm going to include it in the ROM on future releases to make sure we don't have these problems.
To answer the question in your previous post, basically, the only thing that is different between the Fascinate port and Mesmerize port is the eri.xml and a couple of libs. The U S S C Wireless in the status bar was a typo. In future releases, it will be labeled U.S. Cellular, as most Mesmerize users I've spoken to prefer this, and this is how it seems to be labeled in most other Mesmerize ROMs. You can also change the carrier label by installing Root Tools from the Play Store. There's an option in there to edit the carrier label.
