ADW in MIUI
Hey guys, I'm fishing for some info here.

I like CM7, but not better than MIUI. So I installed ADW in MIUI for a few days. I really like the app drawer as opposed to everything being in folders.
The problem is that my battery was lasting about half as long. I tracked it in Spare Parts for a couple of days and I found that ADW was eating up my battery more than any other item on my phone. I tried a few other kernels, but none of them could keep ADW at bay.
Has anyone else seen this type of activity from ADW?
Is there another app drawer style launcher that doesn't eat batteries for breakfast?Last edited by bldkcstark; 05-06-2011 at 02:25 PM. Reason: Edited to remove inflammatory remark about ADW, since ADW wasn't the problem.

That sucks, I have never had that problem with ADW launcher ex. The only problem I have had with adw is force closes. Go Launcher ex is a great free launcher, I recently switched to it. Might want to give it a try.

Why not just put all your apps into one folder labled "Apps" and move it to your dock? Thats what I did.

I've noticed that ADW takes up some decent battery usage on my phone as well (3-5% generally) but it's not enough for me to switch. I like to use a lot of different launchers (GO is awsome; LPP has it's place for me as well) but I always end up going back to ADW because I love the themes and I love the hidden dockbar instead of the rotary type dock.
You may want to try and uninstall and reinstall the app (either back up your setting and config or start from scratch to make sure that you don't have any of the battery eating options activated). You could always contact Ander as well. I've contacted him a couple times and he's usually pretty good about responding and fixing problems.

there are also programs that might help you shut down other launchers running in the background - try installing home manager by carp, and play around with the settings. You may find that you actually have 2 launchers simultaneously using up your battery.

Quite a few excellent ideas here, thanks guys.
I installed LP today, and battery life improved a small amount.
I think my next try will be to try moving all the apps to a folder on the launcher bar. I have done that in the past, but I don't like having to put every app I download in there manually.
I love MIUI, and this is really my only concern with it.

Idiocy Confirmed
It turns out this entire issue was not the fault of ADW, or the launcher in general. One of my other apps was keeping ADW alive, and eating battery. I haven't been able to determine exactly which one yet, but ATK is taking care of it for me now.
Now to figure out how I inadvertently uninstalled ATK from my system.

The only gripe I have against 3rd party Launchers is that when you use them the icons are super small compared to how they are with MIUI's launcher. That being the case I decided to give MIUI's launcher a solid try and put apps in different folders. After using it for I week I now prefer it over the other launchers.

haha I did the same as you did, before I really gave MIUI's launcher a shot I was running LauncherPro Plus, and I really love it, it has some great features, but I decided to give MIUI a decent shot and turns out i really like it as well!

Couple of things to note:
1. Get rid of ATK and any other task killer or task managers. Linux is not Windows, free memory is wasted memory, you will be killing apps before the android system has a chance to kill them correctly, they will take longer to load next time you try to run the app your ATK had killed, you will have cache/dalvik problems that lead to a lot of FCs.
2. Install these 2 apps "Home Switcher" and "Perfect Task Switcher"
3. Press your Home button and select ADW. Then press Home again, select the Set Default and tap "Perfect Task Switcher"
4. Then find you "Perfect Task Switcher" app and tap it to get into its settings. Make sure you turn ON the "Close Task Button"
Now you will be running ADW, but when you tap the Home button it will launch a window that displays all the apps running in foreground and background. You can quickly toggle back and forth between running apps or kill them manually by tapping the X in the top right corner. If the MIUI launcher appears on the screen, just hit the X and kill it.
This way YOU have direct control over whether or not you want a specific app killed but i reccommend not killing apps all the time. Let the android system determine what needs killed or not.

I have been running ADW Ex for over a month on MIUI. It hasn't used more battery than any other app on my phone. Right now it is at 2% along with Twitter...
One thing I did do is remove Launcher2.apk from the System Apps.
