Stable vs Development Builds
MIUI China has released a Stable build (RC) for the Milestone that will have an monthly update schedule (supposedly). They will continue with their weekly updates with a Development release.
I will continue to porting builds to the OG Droid on a weekly basis. The Stable releases this week are a new thing, so they will be looked at more closely before translating and porting. I will apply the same options to the Stable build this week that I apply to the Development build assuming there are no issues from the time the Development build gets released (hopefully very shortly) and when the Stable build is released (No ETA on this yet)
In the future, I will be trying new options with the Development build and only after those options have been used in multiple weekly builds will they get incorporated into the Stable build. This is to try to keep the same idea that the Stable build will remain stable and not have quirky issues. However, the build MIUI has declared stable is for the Milestone, so that does not mean the D1 build will have no issues, there is still some things that can come up from the porting process. However, the porting process used on the Stable build should be as solid as possible because that process has been tested in several weekly builds.
I will keep 2 threads active for bug reports, 1 for the Development build and 1 for the Stable build. Please post bugs in the thread for the build you are using.
I only have 1 phone, so I will not be able to run both builds continuously. I will be running the Development build on my phone to test the newest settings I have used. I will boot the Stable build and verify that it works properly, but I do not have the time to run it full time because of the quick development cycle.
Update 7/14
As you have noticed, I have not released a stable version yet. This is in part because MIUI.us has not released a stable English translation. I have looked at the China build of their stable release and it appears to be a tweaked 1.6.24 build. I haven't yet tried running it on my D1, but have heard reports that the stable builds appear to be a little sluggish. I have not had a lot of time to look into it, but wanted to update those of you waiting for a stable release.
As a side note, if anyone is thinking this stable release from MIUI was going to fix everything, be rock solid, and run super smooth... well that is not going to be the case with this version. I haven't confirmed how well this build works on a Milestone, but on the D1, I don't the experience isn't going to be all that different from the previous releases. MIUI China didn't pull out any magical stops and just make everything wonderful. Sorry to burst any bubbles, but the experience on the D1 is not going to make any immediate giant leaps in performance. AFAIK, MIUI.us is still planning to release an english version of the stable versions, it hasn't been a high priority with the initial results from the looking at the stable builds.Last edited by magiman7; 07-14-2011 at 08:06 PM.

magiman doin what only magimancan
Awesome information and nice implementation ideas.
Mags we all know that our patience will be rewarded greatly.
How exactly will changelogs be handled?
As it sounds like the two new releases are going to have some differences right out of the gate, so I don't know what build spliff was actually writing up.
Spliff please chime in if you could offer some illumination.
Actually, now that I have thought about it, mags does a lot more tweaking than the other ones need because of it being ported from the milestone and the other sweet additions.
So does that mean we should hold off and always rely on the 2 add'l changelogs that you will release, mags?
Sorry, it's just that the word stable in a version name has caused my head to spin.
Thanks for all information and of course the great work!

Is there by chance a suggestion box anywhere? There are a few things that I consider rather redundant and I'm sure there are some other things that YOUR fans (yes, without YOU, we wouldnt have MIUI on our OG's), would like to have changed or at least considered.

If you have suggestions, create a thread here and post the suggestion. We will look at them and will try to accommodate changes that most users want.
People say that if you play Microsoft CD's backwards, you hear satanic things, but that's nothing, because if you play them forwards, they install Windows.
If at first you don't succeed, paint it shiny white and put an Apple logo on it. You can make a fortune on upgrades.

Thanks for the update Magiman. I’m not surprised at that information. As far as D1 goes it is my understanding that it’s not really on the radar of the Chinese developers, if at all.
I’ve found your last many builds increasingly stable. As long as you and T.P. are into it and on the case, I’m confident that those of us with the OG are going to get the best of whatever Miui is available.
Thanks for your hard work.Last edited by Droidlovinyogi; 07-25-2011 at 02:09 AM.
