[GUIDE] HTC Incredible 2 Rom Installation Guide

Thanks to outlawbishop for the guide!

So lets assume you're already rooted, and can see S-Off in the "Fastboot" menu, and have a custom recovery (in this case we'll use the widely accepted "Rom Manager" and Clockwork Mod Recovery).

We'll treat it like this is the first custom ROM you're installing on the phone, which is a process that can be used consistently on any ROM installation.

    Let's Begin:

    1) Download your ROM.zip to your Media Storage of choice: A) Directly to your phone on your SD card over wifi or cellular service connection B) To PC and transfer ROM.zip to your phone's SD card via card reader or USB cable connection.

    2) Once Rom.zip has been transferred to your SDcard, remember where the file is. You can place it in a folder of your choosing, or anywhere on the SDcard; in the case of using ROM Manager as your download tool of choice, it will likely be located somewhere in your clockworkmod/download/ folder.

    3) Open Rom Manager and select "Reboot into Recovery." (Yes, we're assuming you have already flashed the latest "Clockworkmod Recovery." If you have not, please do so now via Rom Manager by selecting "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" from the Rom Manager options before trying to reboot into recovery.)

    4) Now to meet your new best friend. Your recovery will allow you to install your custom ROMs and Kernels, as well as a few other handy tools that as your skills advance you will become more familiar with. Once again, lets assume this is your first install, so our first order of business is to create a backup. From the Main Clockworkmod Recovery menu, select "Backup and Restore." Then Select "Backup." This will create a Nandroid Backup in case anything goes incorrectly during or you get a bad ROM, you can always load your backup and return your phone to EXACTLY the way it was before you began making changes in Recovery. You may also Restore your Backup from here, but only after performing a Full Wipe of your phone to eliminate any trace of the old data that may corrupt your "restore" process. For more info on performing a "Full Wipe," see the next step.

    6) Now to do a clean wipe of your phone. ***Note: At this point you will lose everything on your phone that you have not backed up to an alternative storage space, via cloud, PC, SDcard. This will basically return your phone to a straight out of the box setup.*** Select Factory Wipe/Data Reset from the list of options (On the HTC Incredible, you may move your selector up and down with the trackball or the volume buttons, the press the trackball to enter your selection.) After your selection scroll down through the Nos to the "Yes" and select it, and your phone will begin to clear out its memory. When it completes, you should be back at the menu to Wipe Data/Factory Reset.

    7) After your Full Wipe, scroll down to the "Advanced" menu, and select it. The next list of options should display "Wipe Dalvik Cache." Select it, Scroll down through the Nos to the "Yes" and select it. It should only take a second. This step may be redundant after a full wipe, but if you ever need to "Update" a ROM, its important to know where this option is, so good practice.

    8) Press the "Power" button on the phone to go back to the main Clockworkmod Recovery options.

    9) From the Clockworkmod Recovery Screen you should see an option to "Install Zip from SDcard." Select it, and on the next menu select "Choose zip from SDCard." You will then see a list of folders available to open on your SDCard.

    10) Now, Let's hope you made sure to remember to remember where you put your Rom.zip. If you did not simply stick it out in the open on your SDCard, it should be available in the folder of your choosing. Some default folders may be - download/ or in the case of a Rom Manager Download it would be in - clockworkmod/. Once you locate the Rom.zip, select it, and once again scroll through the "Nos" and select "Yes." Your installation will begin.

    11) When the installation completes, you should return to the "Choose zip from SDCard" list of options. Press your phone's "Power" button to go back to the Main Clockworkmod Recovery Menu. We're almost done.

    12) Scroll down to the "Advanced" tab, and select it. In this list of options you will recognize our friend "Wipe Dalvik Cache," so you know you're in the right place. Scroll down to "Fix Permissions" and select it. After it indicates it is complete, Press the phones "Power" button to return to the main Clockworkmod Recovery list of options.

    13) Select Reboot System Now, and your phone should reboot. After installing a new ROM, this may take up to several minutes before your new custom ROM loads up for the first time. Be Patient. If you have not loaded up in excess of say 10 minutes or so, pull the battery and try to load again. ***Read Carefully: If it does not boot the second time, pull the battery, replace it in the phone, and press the "Power" button while holding the "Volume Down" to enter the "Fastboot" menu, from which you can select your "Recovery." At this point you may perform a Full Wipe, and Restore your Backup.

    14) Hopefully now your installation went well, and you didnt have to restore your backup, so the ROM and Android will prompt you to begin your phone's setup process. Congratulations on installing your custom ROM! Most ROMs come packed with GAPPS (Google Apps), and once you enter your Gmail your Contacts and Market Apps will usually restore on their own after your phone begins to start "syncing." Much of this info can also be stored in handy apps like Titanium Backup, although there are many other great root tools widely available both paid and free. As always it is recommended to purchase your apps, as they support the Android Developers, and in this society of custom systems we honor our friends with tribute. So in the nature of regard, the following:

Thanks to Koush and Clockworkmod for opening the door for myself and others for custom systems, ChainsDD for Superuser, the Unrevoked Crew for the Root Tool, My MIUI family for continuing my education and their great friendship, and countless other developers for giving their knowledge and abilities to the rest of us. I appreciate you all reading this tutorial, I hope it helps. If I left anything out please feel free to comment.

Re: [GUIDE] HTC Incredible 2 Rom Installation Guide

Nice write up. I'm new to miui and am currently running the gingerbread version. I unlocked my bootloader on the HTC web site so I still have s-on. Do the instructions change at all. I have the latest clockworkmod recovery installed along with ti backup and busybox. When I installed the latest version of miui everything worked except my wifi. It would not connect so I went back to the gb version.
