    Something isn't right with your setup. Serious. Mine barely reaches 5MB in a 24hour period of a normal day. If I download a lot of stuff and install apps it's higher, but that's all using download manager. As for type, mine is GB and says so. (When I installed MIUI I wiped and mounted everything but SD and kept the default kernel) I have a shit ton of apps installed too.... Is Dropbox installed and constantly syncing? Or maybe Facebook is updating contact info and notifications ever few min?

    Like i said above, I've been on the same exact setup that I've been on for months. Absolutely no app changes or setting changes.
    I used the firewall to prevent download manager from using the cell network. Only thing i can't do is download/update apps from the market/ perform any actual downloading of files. Everything else works fine.
    My normal usage under this same exact setup is about 10-40 mb a day. When December hit, my usage skyrocketed to 800 mb over a few days. Again, nothing at all changed on my phone. So i investigated the build.prop and it still had the froyo build in there, i changed it to the latest gb build number and the data use is now back to normal.

    Would you mind posting the line(s) you edited? My build.prop seems to be up to date (build version is 2.3.5), but I'm still having the same problem.

    http://androidforums.com/incredible-all-things-root/447517-stop-update-notification.html

    Changed these lines to this:

    # Do not try to parse ro.build.description or .fingerprint
    ro.build.description=3.26.605.1 CL264707 release-keys
    ro.build.fingerprint=verizon_wwe/inc/inc/inc:2.3.4/GRJ22/222219:user/release-keys
    # end build properties

    It's really just the "build fingerprint" that matters as you can see.

    I've run into the same problem too. Over 200 megs overnight. The odd part it that there was a WIFI connection the entire time, but download manager shows 190 meg downloaded via the mobile network and 12 meg downloaded via WIFI. We really need to figure out what's going on here. This could become very expensive with metered usage.

    I also noticed this problem after installing last night. This morning the data monitor said I used over 400mb today. I looked at the usage in the firewall and the download manager was what used the most. I was checking the data monitor every few minutes and the usage kept going up a mb every few seconds. I tried the fix shown above to change the build.prop then rebooted the phone. I think it fixed the issue. I have not had a major amount of data used in the past hour but I'm going to keep my eye on it. I'm not sure why that would be the problem. It's my understanding that the line :
    ro.build.fingerprint=verizon_wwe/inc/inc/inc:2.3.4/GRJ22/222219:user/release-keys

    is there only to tell the android market which version of android you have. Hopefully this will fix the issue.

    Same problem here. I used a workaround that i'm sure is too much of a hassle for most, but i'm not a big market user so it's no big deal. I installed the bloat freezer free app (actually bought the paid version awhile back but it's disappeared from the market), froze the download manager and only thaw it out when I want to update the apps I have or install something new. Then I freeze it again. So far freezing the download manager hasn't effected any other stuff I do with the phone so it's a good workaround for me. I would try the build.prop fix, but I don't know how to edit the build.prop to test it out.

    Just to give an update to this, I had to restore to a cyanogen backup because miui would randomly go back to the problem. Also I have been getting force closes of the market and sometimes other apps but mostly the market. Strange thing about the force closes is I haven't gotten a force close notification. I did get a notification for another app force close so I know that the notifications were working. Wish I knew what the problem was because I really want to switch back to miui. Guess when the new update finally comes I'll give it another shot.

    It worked!

    I tried this and it worked! Shouldn't this be addressed at the OS level?

    I'm glad it worked for you. I think there is something else happening here though. I was checking my cyanogen install and the release-keys were the same as the original build.prop (showing froyo instead of gingerbread) from miui. I still think there is something else going on in the background. I'm hoping the newest update will fix the issue when it comes out. I really want to switch back to miui.

    When I switched back to Inc Deck I still saw download activity so I ended up back on MIUI. I tweeted leeech about this thread and asked about the build properties. He didn't respond but I'm pretty sure he saw it and will look into it.

    So I tried editing the build.prop in the rom before installing to see if that made a difference and it did. My phone uses a lot less data now. But I'm having another problem. All downloads are painfully slow. Like a 284k update takes over a minute to download. Anyone know how I could fix this?

    Update: This is the fix that works. Edit the build.prop with the lines from the earlier posts before installing the rom. Then install it and update your apps or restore your backup. Works great now, just the market is slow with 3g service. wifi works fine though and 3g is quick with all the other apps except the market. I would say problem solved.

    I had 87Mb downloaded yesterday. I changed the build.prop using Root Explorer last night. No download activity today. I will monitor this. Hopefully leeech will include it in the ROM.

    Just another update: Today my phone had only 74.06mb of data usage and I had 7 app updates I downloaded as well as streaming using slacker radio for a little over 2 hours today. I would say the bild.prop needs to be corrected for future updates. Thanks to whoever figured out that the build.prop was the problem.

    seems this is an known issue, i installed the 1230 version today, and enabled internet access for only half an hour, there are about 100M. so I use the built firewall to block the download manager through the internet access. And I disable all application's internet access by default. hope this can help.

    I asked our support people (leeech and Mark) via Twitter about this to see if they would include it in the ROMs. I'm guessing it does not happen with everyone so it might not be too high on the priority list.
    I'm trying Evervolv ICS (@preludedrew) at the moment and noticed in its build.prop file is 2.3.4, which is Gingerbread. Don't know if that means anything but I thought it was interesting.

    I'm just curious - what exactly is the build? My build.prop file shows the line that needs to be edited as inc:2.2. It appears I am several versions behind everyone else. Is there a way to update this or is it a waste of time?
